Voice Bank Blog

Well Crud!!  Here’s something I missed completely! I have posted about the VoiceBank site where there are huge listings of agencies, studios, producers, etc. — Including Agency Demos of all their talent!

Well somehow I completely missed the fact that they also have a blog!  And what a blog!  Several years worth of articles concerning every aspect of the VO world, and lots of interviews, and even the occasional funny video.

Check this out, there’s hours of good stuff here.

Sound Advice Clients: in-studio Workshop

There is an interesting collection of MP3’s here.

These are student training sessions in the soundbooth. You can hear the direction and you can hear the students working on the copy. I find that when I am in class and worrying about my upcoming exercise I can’t really concentrate that well on the other students when they are in the booth. This is an easy way to listen and concentrate.

This is from a studio down in LA where Kate McLanaghan runs a school called Sound Advice. They also do demos.

Oh, and there are also several recordings featuring Nancy Cartwright, you know, Bart Simpson?

Here are some links to a couple news sites that I found a lot of interesting info on.
VoiceChasers and
Voice Over Times.

These sites along with Voice Actors in the News, give you a great overview of the current events in Voice Acting, and for me, they also make me feel a closer connection to the people and the industry.

News, people, conferences, and just interesting observations on all sorts of things from professional voice actors. If you want to live the life, you oughta audit it a little first; and this is a good place to start.

Voice Actors in the News!

Filed under: general observations, Links to Learn From — Tags: , , , , , , — wannabeavoiceactor @ 13:59

Well, a certain Voice Actor has come to my attention this morning and I just have to tell you. Its not everyday that a VA makes it into national news!

D C Douglas, who WAS the tag line voice of GEICO has been released from his duties there. And no, he’s not the little green dude. Full article is available on the Huffington Post.

Seems he just couldn’t stop himself from making a rude, but funny, phone call to one of the TeaBagger organizations and leaving a little message; which you can hear at the link. (more…)

Being a Voice Actor nowadays is a little different from the past (at least as far as I understand it). Once upon a time, VA’s had an agent and that agent set up auditions, and the talent went to a studio somewhere to audition. In fact, I think that a lot of the big names still operate that way.

For most of us starting out now though, things will probably be a little different. Many of us will start auditioning, and with luck booking jobs, before we get an agent. We will find these jobs online at the many casting sites and forums and even general sites like Craigslist. What we won’t be doing is traipsing off to some $500 an hour studio to lay down a couple clips in the off chance we will book a $150 job! (I know, I know; you spent 2 years, thousands of dollars in class fees, and countless hours reading aloud to yourself in a coat closet just so you could get a shot at making $150.00!?! — hmmm, how much does it cost to go to Hamburger U. again?) This is a big site with something like 5 years worth of archives of posts covering voiceovers, marketing, news, and whatever strikes Peter’s fancy!

There is also an exhaustive list of VO Blogs and other sites of interest. And that’s not all!–as the man said; there is also an entire free E-Book about getting started in Voiceovers available here.

This site is a voiceover (and more) class in itself.

Check it out.
